Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange info between a hosting server and a client. Given that the information exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a 3rd party can't intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of handling a web hosting account. The commands that may be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared server, for example, the options are limited since you shall not have root access to the server, so you can just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. They are all actions that are executed in the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the web server or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote web server as well.
SSH Telnet in Shared Website Hosting
When you have a shared website hosting account with our company and you want to manage your content remotely through SSH, you can easily get SSH access to the account using your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package does not come with this feature as standard, you could add it with a few clicks via the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the Control Panel, you will see the host, the port number and the username that you need to use when you connect to the account. You may also pick what password you would want to use, since it doesn't need to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared a number of Help articles where you could find all of the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, plus examples of how they are used. Furthermore, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you'll be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client like FileZilla, for example.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is available by default with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you could add it via the hosting CP if required - even only for the current month. In either case, you could activate and de-activate the function with a single mouse click from the SSH section of the CP. In the same location, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box where you may input the password you want to use, since it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you may also change it as much as you need. A full list of the commands which can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and a couple of examples. An extra feature after SSH access is allowed will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this sort of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
You'll be able to use SSH to handle your content no matter which VPS hosting plans you choose when you sign up, since all of our plans come with this function as standard. You will not have to add or allow anything by hand - the instant your hosting server is prepared and you receive the Welcome email with the login credentials, you could connect and start working on your Internet sites or any software that you want to install and run on the server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and since the account shall be isolated from all the other accounts in the physical web server, you'll be able to do anything you want with no restrictions. You could set up any app that you need and which will run on a Linux-based hosting server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases quickly and easily.
